August 20, 2017 - Sad Memories, Happy News, and Gearing Up for the School Year

Hey everyone! Hope your summer has been going well. Ours has been interesting. Who am I kidding, our life is crazy and I never know what to expect next. I guess that's what keeps me going day to day. LOL Well, let's go over the sad news first. August 20.  My mom's birthday. This day is really hard for me every year since I lost her. It has been 5 years since I got to spend a birthday with my awesome mom. I miss her more every single second of the day and think about how much of the kids' lives she has not gotten to enjoy with them.  Happy Birthday Debbie!  I love you mom! Let's now move on to other news. I got a promotion!!!!! So stupidly happy about this one. I have only been at Cap One for 1 year and 5 months. I have had some great opportunities that I have enjoyed.  I accepted a position as a Sr. Operations Process Coordinator within a specialty fraud group. I am really looking forward to working in this department and with the group that is there. ...

Welcome to the almost the 3rd full week of July!! Holy cow where has the summer gone??? The kids spent two weeks with their grandpa helping to sort through some stuff. Isn't it amazing how they will go to someone else's house to clean but you ask them to clean their room.  Oh, the horror.  Needless to say their rooms are still a mess. grrrrrrr 😒 We picked them up last weekend and am very happy to have them home.  While they were with grandpa, he taught Dre some much needed swimming skills and helped improve Aly's.  Thank you Grandpa Keith!!! They have been back a week and slid right back into regular habits. Sleeping in must be nice.  We finally got Dre's report card, she improved her grades from the 3rd quarter. I hope that she has learned that all we ask is that she try in her classes.  It is so easy to let your grades slide but bringing them is really really hard. While the kids were going, Jenna and I took a nice leisurely drive one day and end...

Summer has just begun!

Happy July!!! I have missed more than a month. Sorry about that. Many things have been going on.  Work duties have changed. School let out. My family's general chaos. Let's get started: Alyson finished 3rd grade. She passed to 4th grade !!!!!  Very proud of her, she was even on the honor roll. They are replacing her school with a new one and it will be literally across the street when it is done.  She will attend it for the 5th grade and then move to middle school.  Doesn't that figure. Dre finished her 9th grade year. She brought her grades up a bit. They could be better, but we are just wanting her to try.  That's all we ever ask of our kids.  I believe that she will be in 10th grade next year. We still have not got her report card in the mail yet.  Very frustrating. Jenna is doing well except for the injuries she has sustained this year.  I think she needs to live in a bubble! I have been doing okay. I have changed some of my job du...

Welcome April 2017

Hello all. I hope you have had an enjoyable week. I know that I have. This was one of my rare weeks off from school.  I finished my last semester last Saturday and the next one starts on Monday.  This semester is a retake of the classes that I took in October.  You can guess that I didn't do so well on those. (hence the retake) We had a good family week.  The kids finished their 3rd quarter.  It will be interesting to see how they did.  I hope they both did well. Alyson finished her bottle buddy project and turned it in. It was on Helen Keller.  If you are not sure what a bottle buddy is then do a Google Search.  She even typed out her report. I was very proud of her. Andrea has been practicing driving on the actual roads.  She is getting stronger with each trip that she drives.  She is building confidence and it's nice to see. She should be confident. Jenna has been working toward her weight goals. We are all super proud of he...

Last Week of March!!

Well, here we are at the end of March!!! Yeah!! I just finished my classes, that is a weight off of my shoulders.  Now to wait for Final grades.  Yikes The kids are doing good. Jenna is pretty good. Not much to report. Over the next few days, I will get to spend my precious time in whatever way I choose. And then it is back to class for me. check out my Accounting blog for more info. :) Have a great week. k

3rd Week of March

Well, today is Jenna's birthday.  Happy Birthday Baby!!!! 😻 I am a bit late but this weekend was again devoted to classwork. I am in the homestretch. Check out my blog related to school  My Journey into the Accounting World . The kids are in full swing of their third quarter in school. It's hard to believe that Dre will be in 10th next year and Aly will be in 4th.  Where has the time gone??? Well we've had a busy week last week.  Alyson is working on a project for school called a bottle buddy. If you're not sure what that is, google it and your world will be enlightened. 😺 Dre also had a busy week. She got her learner's permit last week on the 15th. So proud of her. She is an amazing young lady, guess I really should calling her a kid. She hasn't been little in some time. 😿My baby girl is growing up on me. I am very sad.  She is doing really great in photography. I love her prints. She will be starting a photography page soon.  I will put the lin...

Crazy Weather, Sick Family, and Other Oddities

Well,  I now have successfully posted twice in a row again.  I think my longest streak was like 4 in a row. I wonder if I can beat that now.  I'm getting back on track with my classes. I have worked my tail off the past two weekends on assignments that needed turned in. I'm still very backed up on the reading but with not worrying about the assignments as much, then I can concentrate on my homework. Once I finish these two classes, then I will only have 6 more to go to finish my Bachelor's :).   Oh Happy Day!  Then I continue on for my Master's.  FML But enough about school, you can read more about it at My Journey Into the Accounting World  .  I love to know that people are reading, and would love to have some comments check it out. For the last month or so that is supposed to be winter, the weather has been a topic of discussion.  Here in central VA, we can quite literally see all four seasons in a week. It's CRAZY!  We are current...

March and Heading Toward Spring

I failed to post every single week. It was my fault.  I let life get the best of me. Since January, many things have been going on in our little world. Alyson She lost a tooth, but I can't remember if it was since the last post or if it was before. We knew it had been lose but that was in December, like a monthish later is when it finally came out.  She has had to make a couple of small changes to her daily routine.  It happens as we get older.  Thursday, she had a high fever and Jenna took her to the doctor. Oh goody, she has the flu.  Poor thing.  Hopefully she is on the upswing.  If you've ever been prescribe Tamiflu, that price tag definitely gave us sticker shock even after insurance.  Yikes! Andrea Dre as she would like to be referred to as has had a fairly eventful time. She started dating a boy in January that is one of her friends. She decided to break up with him in late February because she wasn't feeling the relationship. The...

3rd week of January 2017

Hey all, So I have now posted 3 times in one month.  Holy Cow!!! Well this week was a bit interesting.  I got a phone call on Tuesday that Andrea was sick. :(  Poor kid got sick in the hallway at school. She was home until Friday. She's still not at 100% but she was no longer running a fever and she hadn't been ill in little more than a day.  So she trekked along to school.  Now she just has to get caught back up which stinks since she is near the end of her semester. Alyson didn't have such a bad week. She's been the only one to avoid getting sick in the house. Lucky kid. Jenna had an accident on Friday. I couldn't figure out why she wasn't at work at her normal time.  She then messaged me and let me know that the bathroom had claimed another casualty.  She fell but she is okay. Mostly just sore.  I'm seriously considering having her placed in a bubble, maybe then she wouldn't get injuries. Probably just wishful thinking. LOL My birthda...

January 2017 Halfway Point!

Well we had our first snow of 2017!  We got about 6-8 inches, it lasted for about 3 days and then it was 60-65 degrees. Craziness! Alyson lost a tooth on the 14th. It had been a while since the last one came out. Funny story. We were visiting in WV for Xmas 2015 and we were at the Microtel in Buckhannon. That is where Aly lost her last tooth. Bleeding and all I had to scramble to find some salt so that we could get it to stop. She was freaking out and I was just frazzled.  We got through it. This time, she told me like a month ago that it was loose. I told her to wiggle it. Fast forward to yesterday and I asked her about it and she hadn't been wiggling it.I told her to get to wiggling the tooth and then Jenna offered to get it out. Alyson freaked about because it was going to hurt. Jenna finally convinced her. Jenna said she wiggled it like twice and then tugged and it was out. Alyson didn't have the time to freak out cause it was done so fast. She told me today that she g...

First Snow of the Year in the Richmond Area

Well, my kids are happy.  They get to sleep in tomorrow since they have a snow day. We got our first snow of the year this weekend with any real accumulation.   We probably got around 3-6 inches, I'm not real great as measuring the amount. On an exciting note, we finally got to use the snow blower that we purchased last year. Yeah!!!!  We got it last year and then it never snowed again, doesn't that figure. LOL.  Well, Jenna and I took it out and dug out the driveway and front walkway in under 3 hours. Which is a vast improvement from the 6+ hours last year that Keith, Jenna and I worked to get the cars out. Alyson went out to play in the snow and lasted maybe 1/2 hour. She came in and told me she was done with it. She said that "you can't get anything done outside because it so cold".  That made me laugh. Dre didn't want anything to do with the weather. She has been closed up in her room as teenage-dom requires. LOL They called off work on Saturday bu...

January 2, 2017: A New Year, better resolutions

Hello everyone, Happy 2017! I let a few months slip by me again.  A lot has been going on in our little corner of the world. First off, I had a horrible semester and it was about 97% my own fault. I need to have better rules about getting my work done and the reading completed.  I have vowed to do better this semester. So if you see me slacking, tell me to go read some Accounting or Management.  I figured out that I must read a minimum of 9 pages per day to get it all done. Now that doesn't seem like a lot but can quickly add up when you're not looking. Secondly, Jenna's grandma passed away in December. It was a very hard loss for our family.  We had to travel to Ohio for the funeral.  It was a very nice service.  Thank you Lisa and family for sending food to the hotel. It was much appreciated. Thanksgiving happened somewhere in there. It was a good meal and we enjoyed having dinner with Keith and Linda as always. I don't remember much else as I w...
