Welcome to July!

Well, I was right about not posting for a while. I saw that one coming. We have been pretty busy so far this summer.

June 14 - Our first family Camping trip

Andrea and I woke up this day and went to the 3rd Annual Bacon Festival! Yes, I said bacon.  It was nifty and we had a bit of an adventure getting there. Jenna had found out about this festival and put it in our calendar (we could not live without this calendar and get to do fun things because we forget too much). When she put in the address she put in 7th St not 17th St.  Needless to say, there was not much going on at 7th St and Andi and I were quite lost.  We finally got to the festival. Basically all kinds of food vendors offer different food incorporating bacon. There was not much else to see or experience but I had some really awesome Bacon Cheese Fries.

We took the girls camping as a family to First Landing State Park at Virginia Beach. It was beautiful there. We chose campsite G -17. It was a sandy site of which I would not suggest. It makes putting up camp more difficult.  We got the camp up and then we went swimming. The water in the bay was amazing. Not nearly as rough as that of the beach section. After that we started our comedy of errors. We are not an outdoorsy family. Attempting to start a fire, we failed. We did not get a fire started until Jenna bought a fire starter log. We finally got some hotdogs made and they were delicious.  It rained a bit but that was actually nice since it was roughly 80 degrees at 11 pm at night. So very hot.  The kids tried s'mores for the first time. That was amusing.  We then retired to the tent and played some Uno and then went to bed.

I managed to get 38 bug bites in one evening.  (yes, I counted)  We got up and had breakfast the next day. Cereal in 80 degree weather, very interesting. Then we threw on our suits and went back to the water. By noon, it was probably pretty close to 100 degree and the sand which is more white was so very hot. The water felt amazing and then we went to camp to get dressed for lunch. We went out to a place called Famous Uncle Al's. Hot dogs were stellar. I highly suggest this place if your are going to VA beach.  We returned from lunch to take down camp. It took us almost 2 hours to take down the camp when it only took us 1 to put it up. The reason, extremely hot sand. OUCH!  We finally got the car all packed up and then left the camp grounds. We decided to go to Flipper McCoy's (arcade) and had some fun there. Then we returned home.

June 21, Second Camping trip

So we took the kids on a second camping trip to First Landing. This one was more though out.  First of all, we got a campsite reserved that was not on top of sand. And we brought the fire started log this time. This trip was pretty much like the previous week in what we did and when. We checked into the campground and went to our reserved spot. Nice place (C-9).  Then we put up camp and got ready to go to the water. The difference here is that the area of the bay/beach is apparently where the crabs like to go. We had to be careful not to step/run into them. I was unfortunate enough to have two boys chase one right at me. I'm not sure who was more scared, me or the crab.

We had hot dogs and hamburgers for this trip. The hotdogs were awesome and the hamburgers could have been a little more done but we had fun. We then retired to the tent for some more Uno.

Only 4 new bug bites! We kept to the schedule of the previous week. But instead of going to the crab section of the water we went to the main section by the check in. There were still a few crabs and it was more crowded, but still nice. I really liked the area near G17 for swimming.

Of course we ended our trip with a trip to Famous Uncle Al's for lunch followed by some more Flipper McCoy's.

June 27,

I took the kids to Lowes. We went for their build and grow program. This summer kids get to build different craft from the Avengers. So far the kids have made the Avenjet and Captain America's Motorcycle.

June 28th:

Andrea and I went to Virginia Beach. We went for her early birthday gift. We went to see Fall Out Boy in concert. And we stayed in a suite on the Oceanfront. I think it was a pretty good gift and she seemed to like it.

The opening acts of the concert were Hoodie Allen, Max, DJ Drama, and Whiz Kalifa. During Whiz's part, people were smoking some marijuana and you could smell it very well. Andrea did not like how it smelled.

Fall Out Boy are AWESOME in concert.

Here are some pictures

We've had a pretty busy June and look forward to the rest of the summer and making more memories with the kids.
